Write something…

First and foremost, I want you to anticipate end-of-month entries for Screenwriter: The Script Adventure. Why? Because I don’t want to get into the tardiness of this entry – we both know I’m late. Besides previous discussions surrounding tardiness hasn’t improved my ability to deliver on time. Now this doesn’t mean I’ve given up on delivering an entry on the 23rd of each month, just that I’m late, again… HA! So, with that, let’s continue our journey in February’s Script Adventure, shall we?

After receiving the call for resubmissions to the Fellini Awards on 02/8/11, I’m getting into a rewrite state of mind: yet it’s been 20 days now and I haven’t even looked at the script. The deadline is April 1st, so there’s plenty time for me to “get my act together”. Besides, I’ve been focused on getting a handle on the role and responsibilities of my new position. Yes, I moonlight as a screenwriter and manage high profile projects for a Telecom giant in a global network service and operations organization by day.

Any whose, this rewrite is turning out to be a painfully joyous experience. I’ve only written two features to date, and I’m realizing that I need to dig much deeper to pull off the plot in this world I created. Even after discussing my rewrite challenges with some writer friends, I’ll still have to do the usual scene resequencing, but I need to get more creative in order to heighten suspense and add depth to the plot. This is the point where I tell you that I’m so not digging the psychologically volatile state of being I experience from the mere thought of rewriting – could it be that I’m trying to avoid pressure? Well, uhh, yeah!

Here’s what’s motivating me:

a lot of the aspects of your script I have seen in other scripts… the fact that you … shake things up a bit, make it more than the usual script…”

The simple story… is not anything new, but the twist… is a nice edge and makes for an original take on an otherwise common plot.

So the plan is to apply the first set of Readers’ notes to my second rewrite, and request two new Readers analyze it. Since there seems to be a general consensus between the first Readers, I’m more interested in having a new set of eyes on the resubmission.

In other news, I’m still working to get Denied produced. After discussing the budget with Roberta Munroe, it was knocked down to $10K. I decided to kick off another IndieGoGo campaign as soon as I get an answer on resubmitting my fiscal sponsorship application. In the meantime, I’m networking in search of local filmmakers who are genuine and talented: individuals sincerely interested in telling this story, and who are willing to work for food. Go on and tell anybody you think who might want to get on this project, I won’t complain.

In another other news, in fifteen minutes I’m implementing a health/wellness and study plan to reach a couple goals I set for end of June. It’s all about planning people – strategically, that is. A failure to plan is a plan to fail.

Happy writing,
/GM

Writing is rewriting until it’s written!
